It is also true that this same food can help lower the risk of cancer, heart disease, and overall cholesterol. The truth of the matter is: the power of fruit is endless to any diet. Fruit is the key to energy boosting vitamins and nutrients. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and is found in many fruits and vegetables. Antioxidants prevent cholesterol from ‘ oxidizing’ - the process that leads to the furring up of the arteries, and eventually heart disease. If you didn’t know already: fruit is the ultimate brain fuel. Fruit has a positive effect on our brains. Scientists have come across evidence that fruit holds a special key with our memory. Consuming fruit effectively will give our brains the ability to recall information faster and more easily. Yet another great benefit of fruit is that each different color group of fruit provides different benefits to your body. The key to a healthy diet is to eat a rainbow of fruit colors-- that is, include a variety of different colored fruits in your diet each day. The majority of people know that eating five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables a day is very important. But did you know by eating fruits of a variety of different colors, one can get the best all-around health benefits? Each different color fruit and contains unique health components that are essential to our health. The Red group includes cranberries, cherries, strawberries, pink grapefruit, and watermelon. These fruits help protect against cancer and are good for your heart, memory, and urinary tract. The Yellow/ Orange group includes orange juice, oranges, tangerines, yellow grapefruit, lemon, peaches, papaya, mangos, pineapple, nectarines, and cantaloupe. These fruits help protect against cancer and are good for your heart, vision, and immune system. The Green group includes fruits such as kiwi, lime, honeydew melon, green apples, and grapes. This group protects against cancer as well as protecting your vision, bones, and teeth. The Blue/ Purple group, which contains fruits such as grapes, grape products ( red wine, grape juice), prunes, cranberries, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, plums, cherries, raisins, red apples, and red pears, can help protect against cancer, urinary track problems, and improve your memory.
